Fleet Safety Forum publishes guidance on agency drivers

Brake’s Fleet Safety Forum has published new guidance for fleet managers on how to minimise the risks posed by using agency staff to drive for work.

The Fleet Safety Forum points to research showing that agency drivers are more prone to be involved in collisions; with 42% of UK companies using temporary staff as drivers the Forum claims this is a key safety issue for fleet managers.

The Fleet Safety Forum guidance covers effective partnership working with the driver agency; inductions on company safe driving policy and vehicle checks; and subjecting agency drivers to the same spot checks as employed drivers.

For solutions to the engagement of agency drivers both on-line licence checking and on-line risk profiling offers a cost effective answer to this problem. It also can be incorporated within the pre-employement process.
